Reportedly directs his appointees with political ambitions to resign

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is reportedly gearing up for a major cabinet shake-up as part of early strategic preparations for the 2027 general elections.

Multiple sources within the Presidency have confirmed that the President has initiated moves to reorganise his administration, targeting underperforming Ministers, Advisers, and Heads of key government agencies.

According to inside sources who spoke with Newsng, the planned overhaul is aimed at injecting renewed vigour and political capital into the administration, especially as the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) begins to align for the next electoral cycle.

The President is said to have begun a discreet search for politically-grounded and results-oriented individuals to fill strategic roles in Ministries, Departments and Agencies, (MDAs).

A senior official familiar with the development disclosed to newsmen that:

“Mr. President is not pleased with the performance of some members of his cabinet. He wants technocrats and political heavyweights who can deliver on his agenda and also contribute to the party’s strength going into 2027”.

As part of the broader realignment, President Tinubu has directed that all political appointees with ambitions to contest in the forthcoming elections must resign their current positions. The move is seen as a bid to separate governance from politicking and ensure undivided attention to national duties.

Analysts believe this directive is in line with President Tinubu’s reputation for political pragmatism and his desire to consolidate power ahead of the next elections, while also making his administration more responsive to public expectations.

Although the timeline for the cabinet reshuffle has not been made public, sources suggest that the changes could begin as early as the fourth quarter of 2025.

This would be the first major shake-up since Tinubu assumed office in 2023, and it signals a critical phase in the administration’s midterm recalibration, with implications both for governance and the ruling party’s internal dynamics.
